You may have come across the dialogue “Choose your Target Domain” when setting up workflow with “Local” AD destination in Quest ODM (OnDemand Migration) for AD. This screen comes up after “Choose your Target Environment” and may look somewhat confusing as to what exactly it’s asking you to chose after you already defined the Target environment. We will go over it in more details here in this article.
Here is how these dialogues sequence look:
You may notice that all those other Domain names without accompanying SID value are alternate UPN suffixes which you can also observe in “Active Directory Domains and Trusts”. And the ones with the SID are default forest namespaces (could be more than one depending on the number of Domains in the forest).
What it’s actually asking you to select in this Quest ODM dialogue is Domain Name which will be used in setting UPN Suffix VARIABLE (!) “Profile.TargetDomain“. This variable will then later be utilized as part of the attribute mapping syntax in ODM AD, for example when setting UPN in the userPrincipalName attribute mapping “out of the box” formula: ReplaceDomain(userPrincipalName, Profile.TargetDomain). If such mapping is removed and not referenced anywhere else, then this “Target Domain” selection may simply become redundant and not used anywhere else. So in other words, this dialogue is asking you to select UPN suffix which may*** be assigned to Target users, provided that you will put corresponding mapping in place for your workflow template.
We hope this information will enhance your knowledge of Quest ODM product and help in future projects!
